The 7th Battle of the Bands is currently in the early planning stages. The Phi Mu Alpha Battle of the Bands allows the members of the Iota Gamma Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia to get real-world experience in planning large-scale musical events. The battle staff work for months in advance to coordinate bands, venue, sponsors, and marketing. Additionally, the event is a fundraiser which allows the fraternity to invite musicians from across the country to Iowa City to give recitals, lectures, and master classes to University of Iowa music students and at local high schools. For the bands involved, the battle is an incredible opportunity to perform in a large venue and compete in a friendly environment. There is also the opportunity for the bands to become better recognized, not only through the event itself, but on sponsor radio stations and local television advertising. This is also a chance for the community to experience local bands in the downtown Iowa City atmosphere. There is a great deal of musical talent in the area, and a showcase such as this proves a very positive event for both band members and attendees. |
