Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia - Iota Gamma Chapter - University of Iowa Most the chapter history prior to our reactivation is found in membership dues receipts. Our chapter is working with alumni to compile a better a better picture of how our chapter operated since it first began. The Chapter of Iota Gamma was first activated in May 7,1972. Letters written to our chapter and our official chapter charter indicate the initiation of 19 members.

In the fall of 1998, the Iota Gamma Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia began its reactivation process. The chapter owes its rebirth to the efforts of many men. Initially, Matt Baucum took a vested interest in reactivating the chapter here at the University of Iowa. After inspiring a group of men, he left it to the fresh recruits to undertake the long, arduous process of colonization.

After two years of meeting through stringent requirements set forth by the national organization of Sinfonia, the ranks of eager prospective members had dwindled to merely five members. After assessing their status, the hearty remaining members pledged to each other to continue the journey towards brotherhood, no matter the cost in time or effort. Finally, the day of Iota Gamma's reactivation arrived on April 19, 2001. With the generous help of other chapters in the province, the chapters' revival was a success.

All in all, it was a momentous occasion. There are now nineteen active members excited and dedicated to seeing the continued growth and maturity of the chapter. May the Iota Gamma chapter continue to thrive, always remembering that the journey is as (if not more) important than the destination.

Currently, our chapter thrives with an average of 25 members who have a strong passion for music. This past year our chapter has been active in preserving the School of Music during the flood. Members that were in Iowa City over the summer helped save much of the music and instruments that were left in Voxman Music Building. In addition to our involvement with the flood, Phi Mu Alpha participates in various community service. One of our major service events is promoting local music in the downtown area by hosting a Battle of the Bands. This year our chapter will be participating with Sigma Alpha Iota, our sister fraternity in Relay for Life.
